Yogi- 4yr 15.3 h clyde cross gelding. I got Yogi back in March. He had previously been a driving horse. We put a few rides on him but I felt he would really benefit from just a few months in the field to put on weight/fill out. He lived outside in a big field with Valor for a few months and just came back here recently having filled out quite a bit! I do think he will continue to grow and fill out some of these guys just are late to mature.
I personally love the driving horses because they have seen a lot and have a nice foundation. I don't know a ton about his past but I assume he was an amish driving horse. I got him from a friend who has an excellent eye for a horse that can go from driving horse to riding horse. Heck, no reason he couldn't do both if you wanted.
He has picked right back up with the work after having a few months off and honestly is even more relaxed in my opinion. He is still a green horse and one thing about these types is they are big movers and quite athletic types. I compare them a bit to a cross that has bone/substance/good feet but rides and thinks more like a good thoroughbred. I wouldn't say he is a hot horse but he is a more sensitive horse that in my opinion benefits from an educated rider that will quietly support with the aids and not panic if they get a bit wiggly or quick. This guy is put together nicely uphill. He is extremely soft and light. He just makes a really cute shape. He is still learning obviously but such a fancy cute mover with a really nice uphill canter. The hind leg is quite good! He is just a horse that will go all day try his heart out for you.
His flatwork is just plain cute. Everyone who sees him go is like wow he is so fancy and he really just makes the cutest picture. He has been introduced to jumping in the ring and now out xc and boy does he have some talent there. He is scopey and quite brave. He doesn't rush the jumps and he is willing to try anything for you. He has a lot of jump to him and really uses his body although hasn't quite figured out where all the parts go just yet.
Yogi is a really nice horse to work around. Great for shipping, clipping, grooming, baths, tacking, mounting, lunging, etc. He is sound, no injuries, no vices, barefoot and easy keeper.
We have a lot more planned for him but if you are looking for a really cute fancy project to continue to develop he is really fun!
