Tucker- 10yr 15.2 h grade gelding. To know Tucker is to love Tucker. I was joking saying he isn't the sharpest tool in the drawer which is totally true but it also makes him just adorable. You find yourself going awwww Tucker quite a lot. He just wants to please and he is a love of a horse.

I suspect Tucker also hasn't had the best care. His teeth were a hot mess with ulceration so bad in his mouth everywhere. I felt like he hadn't worn a bit before which could be the case or his teeth just caused him a lot of pain. It frustrates me when simple fairly inexpensive things cause a horse to suffer. He is still thinner than I would like but that is changing rapidly.

I bought Tucker off one of those brutally facebook ads where she said look I bought him so he didn't go to auction but he doesn't seem to know much and is more work that I feel like putting in but he looks sound, is sweet and is a nice type. She had been told that he had done a lot of trail riding.

I wasn't really all that convinced he had been trail ridden but I listen to the horses and try not to judge :) He just seems a bit slow on the uptake and maybe his minimal brain cells just fire very very slowly. Again, this is what makes him a horse that is precious and needed by a good majority of riders. I don't love the word bombproof but darn this horse is NOT reactive. He is just chill to the point that I am like um are you thinking...is anything happening in there??? Hello...Tucker???? He is just very much a horse that thinks and moves slow.

We had spent some time really getting him lunging and doing some groundwork. Now, this is a horse that isn't really a "soft" horse. If you are looking for one that is going to do fancy dressage that isn't Tucker. I rarely give up when it comes to trying to make a horse a bit softer in the bridle but again his lack of reaction means he just really thought side reins and vienna reins were so laughable. We tried but at some point you just say well he goes how he goes and move on but hey maybe you are better than me and I will be so thrilled to see him all fancied up!

Once we got his groundwork clicking in we did a little western and english in the field. He didn't really exactly understand going forward/steering or much of anything but I will say he has come along so darn quickly. He might not be all that smart but darn he tries hard!

We took him trail riding and well Tucker is exactly what they said he was and probably more. I don't know if maybe he just followed horses on the trails or what his experience may have been but he just rocks the trails. Leads, follows, bridges, water, traffic and more. Ships like a dream. Ties to the trailer. Walks quietly if you want to walk but happy to get up and go. Just confident and relaxed. Easily would give other horses a lead anywhere which is awesome but he followed as well.

Tucker is going so cute in the ring but we do need to put more ring training into him. I think his calling and experience is being a totally kick butt trail horse but this horse is quiet as they come in the ring. You will need to kick him a bit. The right lead is a bit sticky but he is now getting it. He is learning to go forward and steer. His head is now level and no longer straight in the air with his mouth wide open. He is just a certified good egg. I hope to do more with him but I think he would really just love being a trail horse.

He is quiet enough for kids/husbands/etc especially on the trails. In the ring, he will take them around but they may need to support him a bit. He is safe and he is sensible.

Tucker is excellent for grooming, baths, farrier, clipping, etc. He happily will stand all day for you. He is excellent in his stall and in turnout. Gets along great with other horses. He is the lower man in the herd. He just wants to be friends not be the boss. You can lead him in together with another horse in your hand. He is just the type that kids could ride around bareback and goof off on.

Tucker is sound. He has no apparent injuries or issues. He is barefoot. He does crib. Now he is a mild cribber and he didn't crib at first. I put him on some ulcer meds because why not can't hurt. We pretty much turned his world upside down so I am just trying to make Tucker look and feel like a brand new horse.
