Tiv's Goldee Sox- 10yr 15.3 h registered QH gelding https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/tivs+goldee+sox When I bought Tiv he was working as a pony horse but I did a little searching and he was last traced back to a sale in South Dakota where his ad said he did 4h shows, trails, ranch work and more. I always say that I just wish they could talk to us!
We have been putting some rides on him just figuring out all his buttons because he has a LOT of cool buttons. I find that western horses take a bit to get used to us and we take a bit to get used to them as the aids aren't quite the same to be honest. This guy is very well broke which is super obvious. He has a soft mouth and was a bit defensive in the mouth at first likely from the pony horse job but he is now starting to just relax and stretch down through is topline. He has all the fancy sliding stop, back up, spins, etc and you can tell he is just one that has so much training installed into him. He is very brave and willing. Doesn't look at a thing. Excellent manners, ground work, etc. You just think this horse has been around the block :)
We have ridden him in the ring and out in the field. He has been introduced to XC jumps and boy was he game. I just love these western broke horses because they are so broke and it just lends itself toward the willing to try anything kind of attitude. This is QH that is a good mover, uphill, athletic, balanced and very light. I wouldn't say huntery but thinking dressage, jumper, eventer type. His brain can't be beat!
He seems scopey with good natural instincts which is pretty cool to see as I am sure he hasn't jumped previously.
The negatives or should I say not 100% normal things about this horse that I have found is that he is absolutely terrified of whips. Ava accidently got on him with one and he was so scared. He is reserved/weary when you walk up to him. Now I have no issues catching him or anything like that but you can't just fly up to his face. He is one that will always stay out of your area not come into your area. He doesn't like super quick movements around him. Again he is not going to do anything bad but he is like danger...exiting...he is always aware of his surroundings. Never anything bad at all but while he is quiet he is also aware. These things make him not a beginner type of horse. I think he just appreciates the horseman that is like come on dude you are just fine get to work and then he goes right to work. I often forget we are just so used to horses that are a bit quirky that we don't think much of it.
He is sound, no injuries, no vices and EXCELLENT feet!!!!
