There are horses that just win you over the minute you meet them and for me Tinsel has been one of those. He is a 5yr 16h gelding of unknown breeding. His supposed story is he was bred/raised by an Amish family where he rode and drove. I have had him about a month now and to see the difference in this horse is just mind blowing and a good motivator for doing what we do.

Tinsel is one of the smartest quickest learners. He is just a horse that always comes out right where you left off and is ready for the next thing. We started out riding him western and now he is w/t/c, popping over some jumps and hacking out. He is an interesting horse because in the barn he can be expressive with lots of vocal talking. He pretty much lives to eat and he loves people so he is always alert and checking things out. He will get a bit jiggy and food time or turnout and do this dance which is about the cutest thing you ever will see. He really does just dance and is so animated. I am serious when I tell you that you cannot help but to fall in love with him. He is much more chill to ride which is maybe not what he will give off standing in the barn. He is the type you can really put your leg on and ask all the questions of already. I think he prefers to be ridden a bit over his back and be given some direction.

I personally think he is a beautiful mover with three lovely gaits. He is uphill with a fantastic hind leg. I am sure he was green under tack when we got him but he is just a lighting fast study with everything you teach him. There is zero naughty or silly behavior. He is all business. He is green but so willing. He will look at things but more just an aware type of looking. He has been good riding alone or with other horses.

He was only jumped once but I boy did he show some real talent/scope. This horse gives me the impression that he will be a serious type going up the levels. He is very willing and I suspect his next session he will come out and be like oh yes jumping got it!

He has been hacking out and really enjoys that. He is just a relaxed type out in the open.

While he doesn't mind turnout, I find Tinsel to really enjoy the pampered life of his stall. He has decided he just loves his stall and naps. He likes his routine and will tell you if you are late :) He has gotten quite good at baths now. There are times when he will snort when you bring out his saddle pad like he has never seen one in his life. I have no idea why but it is pretty hysterical. If you don't find it funny, I don't recommend him because I suspect that is just him. He is like OMG saddle pad and we are like um yes you have seen one before and then he says cool okay yeah no problem but he could convince you he was some feral beast for a second if you let him.

I think he likes a leader type of rider. In my experience, these types will absolutely walk through fire for you but they like a boss who says hey you got this let's go. If you are tentative always thinking about what "could be" they just don't really flourish. Again that is just my assessment/opinion.

Tinsel has put on a ton of weight/muscle and he truly is blossoming here. He is now barefoot because he took off his shoes in the field and was so sound I said just leave it. He has gorgeous feet. He is a hearty sound type that I don't think you can break. He has no vices. No injuries. An old scar on his right hind. Right now his face is currently scalped because I accidentally put a 30 blade on before realizing it wasn't a 10 :) Go me! It just makes him cute though and makes me laugh.

We all think highly of this horse and find him a very enjoyable fun ride. I honestly think he could do a bit of anything. He does also drive but I have not tested that out myself.

His latest video is here- https://youtu.be/LFrJxdxpl9k

All his details are at www.benchmarksporthorses.com for his carrots, pics, more videos, etc. He is located in Delaware. We will be continuing his education with lots of field trips as time allows.
