I think I deem Theo of my best purchase of 2025 :) Simply because I absolutely stole this nice horse simply because he ended up in the wrong hands. He is a 7yr 17.1 h canadian wb although selling as grade so call him whatever you want at this point. I am simply going off what his old owner told me about him. He had spent the past several years trail riding, hound walking, hunting, jumping xc in VA hunt country. When her daughter left for a new job he was sitting and hence was sold.
Everyone here just LOVES this horse. So far we have played with him a bunch in the ring, started him over jumps, taken him trail riding and hunting. We aim to get him out more hunting probably this weekend. Schedules have been tough lately with all the holidays.
I suspect most of his jumping was out of the ring vs in the ring so he is sort of figuring out what it means to keep coming forward to the jumps in the ring. It's much different when you are following other horses in the hunt field! He is super willing, scopey and brave. Also has his lead changes when we asked in the ring.
We find this horse to be as uncomplicated as they come. I would say he is more of a push type of ride. He is uphill and light but can be a bit towards the lazier side in the ring. We honestly thought he may be more of a 2nd field kind of hunt horse but he is much more willing to go out of the ring than in the ring so we changed our opinion on that. He is still getting fit. We also just full clipped him because even with the irish clip he was just too darn hot out hunting.
He has been just plain perfect for everything we have done for him. He is another that I really wouldn't mind holding onto for a bit so we shall see. I think there are big things to come from this one.
