River- 3yr 16h red roan draft cross mare that is just so stunning you can't help but enjoy watching her! I don't really get into the whole color thing but I do admit these types really are something unique. She has changed color with the seasons which is cool. Regardless, she is more than just a pretty color! This mare is absolutely lovely to ride with such a fantastic brain on her.
I bought her when I spotted her on a facebook live video being ridden western and I thought wow what a beautiful shape she makes and she just looks pleasant. She kept this lovely balance in all three gaits, looked super soft in her body and just happy to work. I mean I get a wild hair sometimes but no regrets either haha!!!
I would say she is a good size body draft cross without being too heavy. She has substance but is still super handy and athletic. Really nice shape in the bridle, soft, balance, very good canter and just that brain everyone is hoping to find. I know people will be like well I don't want a 3yr but there are a lot that are just that good and she fits that category. You throw her on the trailer and go trail riding, cross country, etc and she is going to be a fun ride.
She mostly had a lot of trail ride experience up and down the mountains when I got her and in the last two months he had been putting a nice ring work foundation on her. She just has such a great start and a lot of quality trail miles which I appreciate more than those ring miles on my young ones.
We have trailered her off the farm to go trail riding where she handles traffic, bridges, water, leads, follows, etc. She went cross country today just to pop some small stuff and she just absolutely rocked it. This mare is brave beyond brave and will just walk through fire for you. What a jump on her as well!!!
She has a nice western handle on her and honestly again you have to watch the brakes because the whoa button is quite firmly installed on the western types which is good but sometimes shocks us english riders :)
I think she is a super nice jumper and with her trail background would rock the hunt field but she could do anything. She really is just such a kind easy going type. She has been fantastic in the barn, stall, turnout, clips, ties, great for baths, grooming, etc. Will stand in the cross ties all day. Barefoot, easy keeper, sound and no vices.
