Planet is a super cute 16h 5yr gelding sired by Mendelssohn out of a Tapit mare. https://www.pedigreequery.com/planet23 He last raced 11/17 retiring sound, no injuries and no vices. He did arrive very thin but this boy can seriously eat. He looks completely different in just over a month in our feed program. Wormed, teeth done, treated for ulcers and really flourishing on good alfalfa/triple crown senior gold.
He makes me laugh because he gets so very excited to eat he does the funniest noises and stunts in his stall 🙂 He has a massive personality. He is extremely personable and kind. Loves all the attention. This horse would thrive as your only horse!
Planet is a lovely mover! It's always tough when they arrive so thin because I think it takes time to build the muscle to really show off the talent that is there but I think you can see what he can do and will really be able to do as he continues to strengthen his body. I swear each ride just gets better and better. He has incredible work ethic and will just try anything and everything asked of him which makes training him extremely rewarding and fun.
See his progress in his video album here! Tell me that isn't neat to see how he changes each ride https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLt-dzmhstvn3ek8g3zwClW4ITXM3k606k
We have been doing some groundwork teaching him to really stretch and build up his topline. Our riding on him is light at this point compared to the lunging because we don't want to work too much calories off him. He is really starting to figure out letting go and finding some stretch. He can get a bit curly so really just pushing the hand forward and putting your leg on to encourage him to take it down and out. His canter is super uphill and balanced. He prefers the flexible rubber bits (herm sprenger duo/etc) as he is quite soft.
He had an introduction to jumping and as we expected showed a lot of talent there. He is scopey and quite agile. The sky is the limit for this one and he is quite bold so I think he would take right to eventing/jumpers/etc.
He has been excellent in a very chaotic ring with horses lunging, crazy cats, dog running all over, winter conditions, etc. I swear the wind this winter has tested any young horse and he is very good.
All his info is at www.benchmarksporthorses.com located in Delaware. lower four carrots with a four five.
