Griffin is a 17h 9yr wb cross that I imported from Canada a few months ago. I do not know his exact breeding but I sure wish I knew more of his breeding/story because he is such a cool horse!
He is a tank of a horse at 17 h but lovely bone, big huge gorgeous feet and a lovely chest/barrel/etc on him. When you meet Griffin you will fall in love. He is just the kindest sweetest animal. He absolutely LOVES people and is just a gentle soul. However, we quickly discovered he had quirks and while I don't consider them to be a show stopper they will be for some. He does need to be drugged for the farrier. We can pick up his feet but he has stranger danger and while you can do his fronts now the backs are still an issue. He also really did not want to participate in a PPE. He was pretty opposed to the vet going over him. It is tough to talk through this with someone from afar because he is a horse that I would trust anyone handling and working around in the barn, stall, grooming, tacking, etc. He is quiet, relaxed and happy. There is absolutely nothing even remotely strange about him so imagine my surprise when he basically told the vet to get lost :) That was embarrassing to say the least. It isn't even like this horse is not trusting with people because truly he is absolutely 100% gentle as they come with us. I am not exactly sure how to train something out of him that I can't recreate so all I can do is talk to people about his quirks.
We have spent a lot of time with this horse doing all sorts of fun things. He has been off the farm trail ride. He ties to the trailer, loads like a dream, stands to be mounted, goes through water, across bridges, through traffic and so much more. He is beyond quiet...and I mean really quiet. He perhaps is one of the quietest horses we have had out on the trails. He is pretty damn unflappable. I am 100% positive this one is probably my best hunt horse prospect so we will keep going a bit with him to demonstrate that.
In the ring we have been working on getting him fitter and a bit more up and out. He is a BIG boy and can be a little bit one that wants to lean so lots of transitions, open and then compress and just asking him to carry himself. He is not a strong horse but he can be a heavy horse so he isn't for a beginner in that respect. You just need to be able to say hey you big boy carry yourself. It has been so fun watching him get stronger and now have the ability to sit down. His canter is really coming along. He has such beautiful movement and I think he would be a standout in the hunter ring but could event, hunt, dressage and so much more!
He LOVES riding in the fields, hacking, etc. He has zero buddy drama. Happy to go out alone. He will jump anything and everything. He is always quiet to the jumps. He will very happily just trot a jump of any size from any distance. He is one of those types that will just pack you around. He is not reactive. He doesn't punish mistakes. He is smooth and keeps you in the middle.
He has been ridden western and is very happy to go in western tack. While he hasn't done any ranch type of work, I bet this one would be super awesome at it.
He is just a jack of all trades kind of horse. We have been putting a lot of different riders on him and having a lot of people working on him and around him just so we could really test him out.
