First XC schooling for Good Skate and he absolutely rocked it just like he does trail riding and everything else we have done with him. I honestly don't really panic when horses don't sell but I also sometimes get perplexed. What I LOVE about this TB is that he is so so light. Justin loves to ride more on a long rein and Skate is happy to just go around. He is super quiet, never pulls, stays in balance and just simply support with leg. He doesn't care about friends leaving, leaving his friends, etc. Stands ties to the trailer. Comes off relaxed. Goes to work. He honestly didn't start out the most confident jumper when we got him but he is figuring out his job like any good classy TB does. First few jumps he was a bit like hmmm okay what are we doing but you can see you just stay in the center, add leg and he says okay I got it. He jumped everything out there. He just got better and better as he went. He may have won good money on the track but his guy is just as relaxed as you would want him to be. I know he would be awesome out hunting, eventing, dressage or anything else you want to do with him. He is so so so sane. There are weeks where we don't ride him and we just hop on and go.
Good Skate- 7yr 16.3 h stunning TB gelding sired by American Freedom out of a Istan mare https://www.pedigreequery.com/good+skate4 Talk about a pedigree for sport! WOW! He had 35 starts for 406k. He last raced in the beginning of April retiring sound, no vice and has no injuries. He has been with us a few months now dabbling in a bit of everything from western trail riding, xc, dressage, jumping in the ring and more.
Sometimes the longer a horse is on the market the more people assume there is a hole, it's failed a ppe or something is wrong with it. I mean look I can be guilty of the same sometimes. I really really like this horse and everyone here who rides him likes him. We are scratching our heads a bit thinking okay we have been xc, trails, he flats around nicely, started over jumps, big, pretty and sound yet zero people who have tried him, no inquires, etc. I don't see any reason he won't vet minus he has pulled a shoe off here and there. I mean that is just normal stuff in the middle of fly season/summer/riding in the field. Right now our ground is like concrete with the total lack of rain so we aren't jumping a ton. I also love that you can get on this horse if you haven't ridden him in a week or longer and just ride. He has been a bit hit or miss on the riding list because well sometimes when they don't get interest we have to focus on those who maybe are getting the interest. With twenty sales horses they sometimes don't get ridden as regularly as I would like but he simply doesn't care and is always good regardless.
We have been putting in some quality rides in the ring, hacking out, popping over jumps in the ring and out xc and the consensus has been that this horse is just one that everyone enjoys riding. He is uphill, light, soft and balanced. He is an interesting horse because he can be a bit looky on the ground but he is as quiet and confident as can be riding. He is one that really allows you to put your leg on and ride up to the bridle. He is actually learning to come a bit more forward. If anything he was a bit stuck behind the leg. He errors on the push side of the equation. Always funny when you are telling the Tb's come on just go on but he is a quiet easy going type. He has a super nice uphill canter which again you have to support with a bit of leg. He won't give you the feeling that he is going to go anywhere fast. I think he is such a nice mover but I promise there is so much more in there and each ride just gets better than the last as he has understood how to use his parts.
He is very willing and just extremely rideable. I would say he is a horse that enjoys a minute to process. You give him a second to think about what you are asking and he figures it right out. What is nice is he is not a hot, spooky or reactive type of horse. He would be good for someone that likes a horse that doesn't feel "hot." He just lets you really feel like you can ask all the questions of him without any drama.
He is really figuring out the jumping and is now trotting and cantering and thinking it is quite fun! I would also say he is one that you just support to the jumps. He isn't going to make you feel like he is going anywhere fast which a lot of people prefer. I think there is a much nicer jump in there but he is a horse that really thinks so so hard that his brain is working faster than his feet at the moment. I find they catch up with time and practice.
Skate has been excellent for shipping, farrier, grooming, tacking, mounting, lunging, etc.
I think he would be a fun easy horse for anyone to bring along.
