Deputy Merlin- 3yr 17h American Warmblood registered gelding (clyde/tb). Merlin was purchased as a yearling and has been developed so nicely by his former owner. She put such a nice foundation on him. Groundwork, lunging, some lunging over xc jumps and so much more. She lightly broke him in the winter but he had a major growth spurt so hadn't done anything since that time. She thought maybe he had about 7 rides or so in the indoor.
I personally just love this cross and I will keep going back to them. I think you get the brain of the draft but they are the most athletic draft types combined with the athletic nature of the TB. Merlin is way bigger and just tanky than some I have met. I did a PPE and the vet said he was over 1400lb so not only tall but wide. He has lovely bone and such nice feet. He is built to last but still obviously growing so going slow and just doing some fun easy things will be his main agenda for a bit.
Knowing he hadn't been ridden in a bit he went out to the roundpen but Justin said he was just relaxed and gave good vibes right way so he just got on. Then he brought him over to the big ring where he just cruised right around. He was a bit green with the canter but um that is because he hadn't cantered under tack before so go Merlin!!! We just let him go forward and find his own balance but it is obvious he is confident and well started.
He is a super cute mover and light for his size. Uphill and not heavy. Great canter! Just love that despite being so young and in a new place he didn't even look at anything in the ring. I suspect this one will be highly in demand from all my foxhunter friends who know how hard one like him is to find. I just happen to stumble across his ad and thought wow that is a super nice horse.
