Some horses are just born easy and this is one of them. Colombo on his 4th ride ever and first time out in the field today. You can see him just standing ground tied in the barn. Yes, he is just that chill. Then he goes out to the field where he has never been and just chills while Justin gets all his stuff ready. Justin gets on and just stands there chatting with Brooke while Colombo barely flicks an ear. We had Empress give him a lead around the first time but then he rode all around solo. He even cantered around like such a big boy! Justin has done a great job starting him.
Colombo- DOB: August 2021, Dapple Grey Irish Draught Cross coming 4yr (august 2025) 16.1 h rapidly growing gelding sired by Silver Craft (TB) out of Ink (Irish Draught).
Colombo is a beautiful horse! When he finishes growing, he will be a ‘head-turning' type! He is in your pocket sweet, safe and attractive, big boned, athletic and correct. He will mature around 17h+ as both his parents were 17h+. He is a cute mover with a good canter but he is very much super growthy at the moment. He has been one of the easiest horses to start under saddle. He is quiet and just NOT reactive about anything. The brain on this one is something everyone seeks out. You can't make the brain and I can tell you this horse is going to be an extremely safe and dependable mount. He has not put one foot wrong. He has two rides under saddle and is already w/t/c alone around the ring. We really only do something with him very lightly about 2x a week and will be adding in hacking out/trails.
Colombo is suitable for any discipline: dressage, eventing, hunter/jumper; or start him in the hunt-field, or pleasure riding until he finishes growing. He has been raised at the farm with his siblings, he is not a loner, he enjoys other horses and is respectful and friendly.
Both full sisters are already successfully competing in the show ring. One as H/J in the Chicago area, and the other, beginning Dressage training in Auburn, AL. Colombo is SAFE, no spook, no kick, no buck, no bite. He is uncomplicated with a trusting friendly personality. He loads without trouble, enjoys being groomed, stands for the farrier and has excellent feet, of course he is barefoot.
Colombo shows the friendly trusting personality of his dam INK, a lovely black/white Irish Draugh/Paint cross. INK started as a hunter but due to her size and kind temperament was trained in vaulting. She was leased as a broodmare and now is retired. From his dad, Colombo inherited his kin awareness and forward effortless movement. His sire, a Jockey Club Registered Thoroughbred of great speed, winner at the racetrack: TB Silver Craft. Silver carried impeccable sport and competitive bloodlines (grandson of Unbridled, cousin of American Pharoah, winner of Kentucky Derby / Triple Crown 2015; on his dam's side Mr. Prospector descendant of Natïve Dancer! Silver Craft was registered and tested as breeding stallion with The Jockey Club, the North American Trakehener Association, NATA and AQHA. Colombo, a great prospect for any discipline, is the product of careful and successful breeding.
