This is another exceptional imported steeplechase horse that we think is so dreamy to ride!
Baby Boss- 6yr 16h imported French TB sired by Montmartre out of a Shakespearean mare https://www.pedigreequery.com/baby+boss6 I mean pretty much if you saw this on paper you would beg to have it in your barn. This is my second by this sire and they are just WOW!!!!!!!!! This lovely horse was imported in 2023. He had six starts over fences and is retiring sound, no injuries and has no vices. He does have this bump above his left knee that has been there for years and xrays clean (likely something from a foal his trainer said as he arrived with it years ago). He last raced on 5/25/26.
Sometimes I horses that I think are incredibly talented but for whatever reason they just doesn't jump off the page where people see what we see. Everyone always asks if most people buy "off video" these days and the reality is most still do. That is great except when you really need people to just come have a sit so they can feel what you feel. I am almost always right that when people finally do come and sit on it they go OMG yes I see exactly what you mean :) I don't just say a horse is an UL type unless I have a reason to believe it and I will for sure tell you when I don't think they are which many of you know from messaging me. I would rather kill a sale to say hey this horse really isn't that brave or I think they would be happiest doing foxhunting vs eventing or they want to event not hunt. They hate trail riding. They think dressage is torture. Whatever that may be for each horse because they really often make it clear to us right away.
Baby Boss is a horse that from our first ride we all were like oh yes this one is awesome. Okay, he isn't OMG flashy with tons of chrome, he is of normal height, he is more economical with his movement but let me tell you he is steady, athletic, will jump a house and he LOVES the job. He is game and fun. If you like that sportscar feeling he sure does give it.
I think what can take a bit for even us is figuring out how a horse wants to be ridden. He was a steeplechase horse which great he knows how to jump but he is also one that likes a particular ride. I feel like we are just now figuring out how to ride him how he likes which is to make the reins a bit longer, sit quiet and ride him a bit more open to the jumps. Yes, a steeplechase horse that needs a bit more forward/open ride because he can add a stride and compress in a way that makes him feel like a bouncy beach ball haha!!! He can get a little "up down/bouncy" if you do too much which I mean on greenies it's sometimes hard to not do too much. You have to learn to trust them a bit and they have to learn what their role is so you can say okay here now have at it. We are finally getting there which is so fun and now my riders are like holy heck this sucker can JUMP. I mean we knew he could jump but like he is now understanding his new role and they are understanding how he likes to be ridden so it is all clicking together.
We have taken him xc schooling and to two jumper shows. His second show was yesterday and boy did he rock around the jump courses! Sometimes in the beginning we he is really excited he does swap his leads back and forth but as he gets going he starts to just go forward. That all comes in time with schooling but talk about a super game fun horse that is already out competing just two months post track.
We hope to get him out to Windurra for another xc school. This horse is ready to do big things. I think he is just plain awesome and should be a horse that would do jumpers/eventing/etc and be a total rockstar!
