Our sales program is booming right now which is great but sometimes that means the other horses take a back seat while others become the priority. Rooster had couple of awesome rides, then a trail ride and then he sat for a bit while things were busy. Ava was able to do two rides last week and then pick back up with him this week. He is just coming along so nicely! Our goal is to get him out to a little xc outing this week.
Rooster is an absolutely gorgeous 6yr 15h welsh cob gelding with the coolest color! I totally admit I am a sucker for a pretty pinto but he is a neat liver chestnut and white color that is really pretty in my opinion.
His previous owners bought Rooster and were told he was a dead broke anyone could ride type of horse. They said they just didn't quite think he was as broke as they needed for their son. He had a lot of ring/trail experience from everything they were told about him.
We only are a few rides in with this lovely horse but all of us actually have found him to be super well broke and the type that anyone could ride. He hasn't put a foot wrong with anything and his foundation is just lovely. He knows how to lunge both directions. He is soft in the bridle and can be ridden into contact or on the buckle and never changes his rhythm. He is excellent and smooth with his transitions in and out of the gaits. He hasn't even looked at anything here and boy my farm has a lot to look at both in the ring, out xc, in the barn, etc. He has been confident and relaxed riding in the ring and in the fields. He is just the cutest mover who I think makes such a lovely shape. He is quite uphill which is great because he rides bigger than his size and gives you that feeling you are just setting into him. His canter is super smooth and soft. He is the type that I think could really inspire confidence in riders because he is fancy but so quiet. His gaits are nice but also very easy to ride.
I sort of think maybe he doesn't have a ton of jumping experience but again he has just been the type that is very eager to please and hasn't even looked at a jump. My fillers and xc jumps are scary but he just happily pops around about as cute as they come. He has a super nice jump and is really good with his knees. Very brave! Just stays steady to and away from the jumps.
He was a little nervous initially shipping off the farm to trail ride in the first five minutes of the ride but then he settled right into it. Happily did the ditches, water, pond and went nicely in the group. Again, he is a young horse so while he doesn't do anything I consider wrong I wouldn't call him a packer type just yet.
He has been excellent with shipping, clipping, grooming, baths, turnout, stall, etc. Very good manners. Super kind and sweet.
Sound, no injuries, no vices and barefoot/easy keeper.
Obviously he is still a young horse but this guy is one that I can see totally kicking butt out eventing, foxhunting, dressage and more. I LOVE this size so much and my riders who are all very tall do as well. He takes up plenty of leg!
