Absolute all around type that has been hunting, trail riding, hunter paces, shows, xc schooling and soon to add more things to his resume. He is just the coolest!!!!
Gus- 6yr 16h draft cross gelding that is just the absolutely most adorable horse ever! Gus has a fantastic start in life where he has spent most of his time out of the ring. His most recent owner did a ton and ton of trail riding in Aiken both solo and in groups. He previously had been trail riding, hunter paces, hunting and schooled some cross country. We have furthered his education but adding some fancy buttons into his flatwork, trail riding, heading off to shows and xc schooling. Gus is safe and fun for most riders in my opinion. He is the type that will just go around and can tolerate so many riding styles. I just can't imagine anyone getting on this horse and not smiling. He is just plain fun! You feel like you can just go bomb around anywhere and have fun doing it which as we know sometimes is just easier said than done.
Most of Gus's mileage has been out of the ring and just the go have fun kind of riding which is fantastic! We have been working on installing some more buttons in the ring so that he can show off his cute little self a bit more. He has been doing a little lunging figuring out how to carry himself and where to put all the parts. He wasn't really in shape so it's always slow and steady work but darn if he isn't the smartest! Just has already started to figure out how to push and carry himself in a short period of time. Quite frankly, we just prefer our draft x's to have a bit of softness to them because they ride a lot more agile when you teach them to carry themselves. I think it just changes the ride!
All that flatwork is paying off because he is now finding his jump and darn this boy can jump! He was absolutely lovely on our most recent xc trip seen here https://youtu.be/u2gx1OiSdcg where he was really showing off that he has a lot more scope in there now that he is getting fit and carrying himself. He was like watch me now :) This horse is just so so very game! He is the type that might give the jump the side eye when you ride past but when you are jumping he is on it. He happily jumped around the bn/novice and was super to the banks, ditches, water and so much more.
Gus is more of a horse that is whoa than go but I wouldn't call him the type you have to kick either. He has a lovely little motor. You just need to support him a little bit so he can push over his back through his topline.
He has been absolutely awesome popping over all the scary jumps/fillers/xc jumps in the ring and out in the field. He is quiet to and away from the jumps. Will trot or canter in depending on how you ask. Heck he is happy to walk over as well if you want :)
I was told he absolutely loved hunting and was super quiet. There is some old video of that in my album. Everything about him screams kick butt event horse, hunt horse, trail horse, lower level dressage and all the fun things in between.
He is sound, no injuries, no vices, barefoot and an easy keeper. He has a lovely personality. He is exactly the same off the property. He is excellent trailering, tying to the trailer, etc. Requires no prep. I don't think he had been ridden in a week before his xc outing but he is the same horse regardless. Our schedule has just been a bit nuts but I LOVE that you can just get on and go with Gus.
